BNY Mellon Asset Servicing has appointed Jürgen Scharfenorth as head of relationship management for Germany.

Scharfenorth will report to Michelle Grundmann, managing director at BNY Mellon Asset Servicing in Germany, and will be based in Frankfurt-am-Main. He officially takes up his new role on 1 February.

Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Scharfenorth held a number of roles at Societe Generale Securities Services Deutschland, including managing director sales & global relationship management for Germany and Austria; CEO of Societe Generale Securities Services, Deutsche KAG mbH; and CEO of Societe Generale Securities Services Euro-VL Deutschland GmbH.

During his 20 year career in German financial services, he has also held roles at IGEFI Deutschland, Union Investment Gesellschaft mbH, Commerzbank Investment Management and BfG Bank AG.

Scharfenorth said: "BNY Mellon's reputation is second to none in the custody and administration space and I am looking forward to working with the team here in Germany to provide our institutional clients with the comprehensive range of tailored solutions we can now bring to the market following the BHF Asset Servicing acquisition last year."

Michelle Grundmann said: "With his long experience in the market, Jürgen has a deep knowledge and understanding of the needs of German clients and we are very pleased to welcome him to the team. I have no doubt that he will play a key role in our ongoing efforts to establish BNY Mellon as the number one asset servicing provider here in Germany."
