BIS appoints new representative for the Americas

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has appointed Alexandre Tombini chief representative for the Americas, effective 1 September.

In this role, Tombini will lead efforts to develop relationships and strengthen collaboration with central banks and financial organisations in the Americas.

Tombini will also support the expansion of the BIS's banking operations in the region.

He succeeds Enrique Alberola, who has been chief representative for the Americas since 2014.

Tombini is currently an executive director of the board at the International Monetary Fund.

Agustín Carstens, general manager at BIS, said: "I have great pleasure in welcoming Alexandre Tombini to the senior management team of the BIS. Tombini is perfectly placed to deepen cooperation between the BIS and central banks in the region, and I very much look forward to working with him on this.”

He added: “I would also like to thank Enrique Alberola for his excellent work leading the office over the past five years."
