Apex Group, a global financial services provider, has appointed Kimberly DeTrask as chief financial officer and Maxwell Johnston as chief business officer.

Effective 1 October 2025, DeTrask will join Apex Group from State Street, where she has served for over 12 years, most recently as treasurer and executive vice president.

Before joining State Street, DeTrask spent more than 14 years at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, where she worked in the risk and policy unit, contributing to key regulatory and risk frameworks.

Her previous role as chief financial officer of State Street International highlights her extensive experience in global financial operations and strategic leadership, according to the firm.

Reporting directly to Peter Hughes, founder and CEO, DeTrask will join the group executive committee and, according to the firm, in her role of chief financial officer she will be focused on delivering a future-looking finance function

In addition to DeTrask’s appointment, Maxwell Johnston, an existing member of the executive committee who has held several roles in his seven year tenure at Apex Group, has been appointed chief business officer.

Previously holding roles including driving M&A strategy, chief of staff, and most recently as interim-chief financial officer, Johnston’s expertise in commercial strategy means he is well placed to focus on driving commercial alignment across Apex’s regional functions, says the firm.

Commenting on her appointment, Hughes says: “Kimberly is a highly experienced and accomplished Finance leader and an excellent addition to our leadership team. Her deep financial expertise and global perspective will be instrumental as we continue to scale and innovate across our business.”

Hughes adds: “Max’s appointment as chief business officer reflects our commitment to strengthening our commercial capabilities and local delivery to support the value we can offer our clients.

“His focus on driving transparency, alignment and enhanced processes through our regional operations will be instrumental as we continue to evolve and mature our business operations and drive organisational transformation.”
