Alder takes charge as chair of IOSCO board

The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) has appointed Ashley Alder as chair of the board.

Alder, who was previously vice chair of the IOSCO board, was appointed during the IOSCO annual conference in Lima, Peru.

He also retains his position as the CEO of the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong.

Alder replaces Greg Medcraft who served as chair since 2013 and was responsible for implementing IOSCO's 2016 to 2020 strategic direction plan.

Jean-Paul Servais, chair of the Financial Services and Markets Authority of Belgium, was called upon to replace Alder as vice chair.

Also during the Lima conference, the board elected 34 experts to represent IOSCO members in a wide variety of geographic regions, including Argentina, Egypt, Italy, Nigeria and Peru.

IOSCO’s membership regulates more than 95 percent of the world's securities markets in over 115 jurisdictions
