Akash Shah has joined BNY Mellon as senior executive vice president in the newly-created role of head of strategy.

In his new role, he will be responsible for helping BNY Mellon develop and implement its long-term objectives, shape external partnerships and alliance.

Additionally, Shah will respond to the increasingly dynamic financial services ecosystem.

Based in New York, he will report to CEO Charles Scharf, and join the executive committee.

Prior to BNY Mellon, Shah was a partner at McKinsey & Company. He has over twelve years of experience advising financial institutions in the US, Europe, and Asia.

He also co-led Mc-Kinsey’s Capital Markets & Investment Banking practice and authored multiple reports on the firm’s perspectives on the future structure of the wholesale banking industry.

Commenting on his new appointment, Shah said: "I am excited to join BNY Mellon and look forward to working with the many talented executives within the Strategy organisation to optimise our global business to better serve clients."

Sharf commented: "I am very pleased to welcome Shah to BNY Mellon. Throughout his career, Shah has focused on transforming companies."

He added: “We're at an exciting moment in BNY Mellon's long history, focused on organic growth and innovation. Shah's leadership will be integral in continuing to transform our business to better serve our clients."
