Standard Chartered has been appointed by First Sentier Group — an Australia-based international asset manager — to provide custody, fund administration, transfer agency, and trustee services for its Hong Kong Unit Trust (HKUT).

Building on Standard Chartered’s existing support to First Sentier Group’s Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Approved Pooled Investment Funds in Hong Kong, this new mandate will help consolidate their Hong Kong-domiciled funds.

Following the appointment, Standard Chartered has become the sole securities services provider of the portfolio — which according to the firm, enables the group to achieve greater operational efficiency and economies of scale.

Simon Kellaway, global head of sales and regional head of securities services, Greater China and North Asia, Standard Chartered, says: “We are delighted to extend our collaboration with First Sentier Group to support its Hong Kong fund business.

“With Standard Chartered’s integrated securities and fund services, strong global delivery model and deep market local expertise, we are well-positioned to help international asset managers to capture opportunities arising from a booming asset and wealth management market in Hong Kong.”

Amanda Gazal, chief operating officer, First Sentier Group, adds: “We are pleased to extend our partnership with Standard Chartered as our operations in Hong Kong move into the next phase.

“Standard Chartered has taken the time to understand our needs and has demonstrated a clear commitment to partnership — and we look forward to their support in helping us embed the full fund ecosystem and deliver scale and consistency to our clients.”
