Ripple, a provider of blockchain solutions, has announced a partnership with Meritz Securities, one of Korea’s leading securities firms.

Together, the two companies say they will explore how to bring Ripple Custody and Ripple’s tokenisation infrastructure into Korea’s capital markets.

Meritz Securities explains the partnership with Ripple was formed as part of the effort in exploring a range of digital asset related business opportunities in preparation for the integration of digital assets into the regulated financial system.

As Korea’s digital asset framework develops, the firms say they will widen their cooperation in stages, but are starting within the scope of Mertiz’s existing securities business and current regulation.

Fiona Murray, managing director of Asia Pacific at Ripple, says: “Korea is one of the most dynamic digital asset markets in the world and its institutions are preparing to move from exploration to real-world utility.

“Ripple brings the full infrastructure stack across payments, custody and tokenisation, backed by more than 85 licenses and a network spanning more than 60 markets globally.”

Byungha Kang, managing director of the strategic planning unit at Meritz Securities, adds: “This partnership lays the foundation for combining Ripple's global digital asset infrastructure with our capital markets capabilities.

“As Korea's regulatory framework evolves, we will prepare safe and trusted digital asset financial services in stages.”

Meritz Securities is the fourth institutional partnership for Ripple in Korea this year, alongside Kyobo Life Insurance, Kbank, and Jeonbuk Bank, and explains it now works with Korean institutions across banking, insurance, and capital markets.
