Silvestre Fontes rejoins SEC’s Boston office

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has appointed Silvestre Fontes as director of its Boston office, effective next week.

The current acting co-directors of the region, John Dugan and Kevin Kelcourse, will serve as associate directors for the enforcement and examinations programmes of the Boston office respectively.

Fontes joined the financial services industry in 2000, serving as senior enforcement counsel at the SEC. He spent 13 years with the organisation, becoming assistant director of the Boston office in 2010.

He rejoins the SEC from Bracebridge Capital, where he has been chief compliance officer for the past four years. Prior to this, he was vice president and compliance manager at Wellington Management and director of financial services regulatory practice at PwC.

Gurbir Grewal, director of the SEC’s enforcement division, says: “I am thrilled to welcome Silvestre back to the SEC. His experience in leadership roles in the enforcement division and in the financial services industry will serve him well in leading our Boston office in its efforts to advance the mission of the commission.”

Fontes comments: “I am humbled to lead an incredible team of public servants dedicated to strengthening compliance and enforcing the nation’s federal securities laws to protect investors.”
