McDermott Will & Schulte have announced that Sina Hekmat has joined the firm as a partner in its Capital Markets group in New York.

Hekmat joins from Hogan Lovells, bringing experience advising on transactions across the US and European capital markets.

His arrival continues the firm’s build-out in New York and across private capital, adding senior capital markets depth in the city.

His work spans private equity, debt and equity capital markets, structured finance, and M&A.

With more than 30 years of experience, Sina advises issuers, underwriters, and investors on sovereign, investment-grade, and high-yield debt offerings, equity offerings, asset-backed securities, and private placements, with particular depth in Germany.

Ira Coleman, chair of McDermott Will & Schulte, says: “Our clients are raising capital across borders, and they want one team that moves with them.

“Sina knows how deals get done across both US and Europe, and he's a great fit for how we work: collaborative, ambitious, and all-in for our clients.”

Harris Siskind, global head of the Transactions Practice Group, adds: “Sina strengthens our ability to serve clients fluently on both sides of the Atlantic — combining deep knowledge of the German and broader European markets with sophisticated US securities law experience to guide complex cross-border transactions.

“That reach, paired with the depth of our platform, is exactly what issuers and underwriters are looking for right now.”

Commenting on his appointment, Hekmat states: “McDermott's trajectory in private capital is hard to ignore, and the chance to plug a genuinely multijurisdictional practice into it was compelling.

“Clients are looking beyond any single market, and I'm looking forward to pairing my European and US work with the firm's strength across capital markets, structured finance, and M&A.”
