NSD sees Q2 custody figures increase

The value of securities under custody at the National Settlement Depository (NSD) reached RUB 49.1 trillion in Q2 2019, according to recently released figures.

This marks an increase of 14 percent compared to Q2 2018, and can partly be attributed to NSD’s development of integrated services in the global custody network, for example, Raiffeisen Bank International (Vienna) became the first foreign custodian to open a direct foreign nominee account with the NSD.

In addition, Q2 2019 saw the number of serviced foreign securities issues increase by 27 percent year-on-year, while overall the number of serviced securities issues increased by 18 percent from around 18,100 to 24,100.

Furthermore, the value of money transfers decreased by 6 percent to RUB 78.7 trillion, with client transactions amounting to 3 percent less than in Q2 2018.

The results also showed that in Q2, 2,030 meetings of securities holders were initiated using the E-voting technology, along with 108 corporate actions to repurchase shares and 15 corporate actions to exercise the pre-emptive right to purchase shares. In Q2 2019, the total value of repurchased shares reached RUB 34 billion.
