Federated Hermes has appointed Kevin Barr as director of Digital Assets Product and Platform Strategy.

Barr joins the firm from BNY, where he most recently served as head of Digital Cash and Innovation within Treasury Services.

At BNY, Barr led digital asset and tokenisation initiatives spanning blockchain-based payments, liquidity, and market infrastructure, alongside regulatory engagement and industry collaboration.

In his new role, Barr will lead Federated Hermes’ digital assets strategy, focusing on product development, platform design, and commercialisation, as well as working with sales leadership on the firm’s digital asset distribution strategy.

He will also oversee the identification of new digital asset use cases across tokenised traditional assets and regulated digital instruments, managing the product lifecycle from concept through to launch.

In addition, Barr will support the development of governance, risk, and operating models intended to ensure digital asset initiatives are scalable, resilient, and aligned with global regulatory expectations.

Federated Hermes said the appointment forms part of its efforts to strengthen its approach to regulated digital assets, tokenisation, and investment infrastructure.

Erik Gosule, director of Product and Marketing Management at Federated Hermes, says: “Kevin brings deep experience in building and commercialising regulated digital asset platforms.

“As digital assets and tokenisation become increasingly relevant to investors, his leadership will be critical in helping us deliver innovation in a disciplined, client-focused and responsible way.”
