Standard Chartered has appointed Ying Ying Tan as global head of securities services and global head of digital assets.

Tan succeeds Margaret Harwood-Jones, who has taken on the role of CEO, UK and Europe at Standard Chartered.

In her role as global head of securities services, she will lead the bank’s securities services business globally, drive strategy, growth, and continued development of the franchise across custody, fund services, and clearing.

In her role as global head of digital assets, Tan will be responsible for growth and continued development across custody, tokenisation, digital asset trading, financing, and broader ecosystem partnerships.

Tan joined Standard Chartered in 2017 and has held a number of senior leadership roles, most recently serving as global head of securities services product management and chief operating officer for the business.

She is based in Singapore and will report to Ole Matthiessen, global head of transaction services and digital assets.

The firm explains that Tan will work closely with Rene Michau, who also reports to Matthiessen.

Michau has taken on a senior advisory role, will remain closely involved in the next stage of the bank’s digital assets franchise, says the firm.

Speaking on Tan’s appointment, Matthiessen, says: “Ying Ying brings a unique combination of expertise across securities services, transaction banking and digital assets. She has played a pivotal role in building and commercialising our digital assets custody capabilities while developing the breadth of our Securities Services franchise to meet our clients' evolving needs.

“Her appointment reflects the strength of our talent pipeline; her leadership, experience and track record of execution position her exceptionally well to lead the next phase of growth as we continue to strengthen our Securities Services franchise and advance our digital assets agenda.”

Commenting on her role, Tan says: “The boundaries between traditional and digital finance are becoming increasingly interconnected, creating new opportunities for clients and the industry.”

Tan continues: “I look forward to working with our clients, partners and teams around the world to help shape the next phase of growth of our Securities Services business and our ambitious digital assets agenda.”
