A survey from Neo, a cross-border payments and treasury fintech firm, found that 88 per cent believe stablecoins could improve cross-border B2B collections but only 27 per cent currently accept them for customer payments.

The survey polled 100 corporate treasurers and senior finance professionals across the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.

Operational complexity is the most frequently cited barrier to adoption at 29 per cent, alongside regulatory uncertainty at 23 per cent, tax reporting at 21 per cent, and accounting treatment at 18 per cent.

The survey reports faster access to liquidity and 24/7 settlement are among key benefits respondents associate with stablecoins, although international payments remain complex as 94 per cent report some level of difficulty when collecting international payments.

Despite widespread interest, the survey found only 17 per cent of respondents currently use stablecoins for supplier or counterparty payments.

Laurent Descout, CEO and co-founder at Neo, comments: “There is strong interest in stablecoins among SMEs operating internationally, but relatively few are using them to collect payments. Businesses want faster and more flexible ways to move money across borders, without having to manage digital assets themselves.”

Descout continues: “Stablecoins won't replace traditional currencies, nor will they be the best solution for every transaction. Businesses need access to different payment rails so they can choose the most efficient option depending on the market, currency and payment involved.”
