Generali Investments has launched a natively tokenised class of an existing Luxembourg-domiciled money market fund (MMF), using distributed ledger technology (DLT) to represent and record fund units.

The tokenised fund class has been introduced for deployment within Generali Group’s investment activities, making it the first step in the development of a broader tokenised investment offering.

Generali says the initiative is designed to extend tokenisation to all of its clients, establishing a framework for wider distribution and long-term operational efficiencies through DLT-enabled processes.

Commenting on the launch, Woody Bradford, CEO and general manager at Generali Investments, says: “Building on the progress already made in AI and automation, this launch further advances our technology agenda.

“It combines our established investment expertise with a more efficient and digitally enabled way of serving clients, helping us meet their evolving expectations and remain at the forefront of innovation in our industry.”

Emiliano Di Giammatteo, chief operating officer at Generali Investments, adds: “Tokenisation and digital assets can play an important role in modernising our investment fund infrastructure.

“MMFs are a compelling starting point because of their potential to broaden distribution while enabling more efficient liquidity and collateral management, both across traditional capital markets and for stablecoin issuers.”
