Citi’s board of directors has elected James Flanagan as a new independent director, with service starting immediately.
Flanagan spent nearly 40 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), moving from audit partner to regional and national practice leader before he served as chief operating officer and vice chairman from 2014 to 2021.
In the role, Flanagan was responsible for every aspect of the firm’s US operations which included human resources, information technology, finance, real estate, and risk and regulatory matters.
Earlier in his career at PwC, he led the firm’s US Financial Services practice which spanned across audit, consulting, and tax services for banking, insurance, and asset management clients.
Flanagan currently serves on the boards of Integer Holdings Corporation, a medical device contract development and manufacturing organisation, where he is a member of the audit and technology strategy committees.
He also chairs the audit committee of Cyabra, an AI-powered analytics company, and serves on the compensation and nomination and governance committees.
Speaking on Flanagan’s appointment, Jane Fraser, Citi chair and CEO, says: “Throughout his career, Jim has helped organisations navigate change, strengthen performance, and create long-term value, with a deep appreciation for the importance of putting clients at the centre of every decision.
“At a time when the opportunities and challenges facing our industry are increasingly interconnected, Jim's deep experience across risk, operations, technology, and accounting will bring valuable perspective to our board.”
