CMU OmniClear and Cross-Border Interbank Payment System (CIPS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aiming to strengthen cooperation in market development and serving overseas members.

The document was signed by Stanley Chan, group CEO of CMU OmniClear Holdings and CMU OmniClear, and Wang Hongbo, chairman of CIPS Co.

In accordance with the MoU, both parties will further deepen their cooperation in market development and network expansion to create synergies and broaden their respective member networks.

Other areas of cooperation include enhancing the liquidity and attractiveness of renminbi-denominated investment and financing products, promoting financial services including cross-boundary payments, cash management and securities settlement, as well as improving the interoperability, connectivity, and service efficiency of financial infrastructures.

Commenting on the MoU, Chan says: “CIPS Co. has always been our valued partner. Over the years, we have been jointly supporting the mutual market access mechanism between the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong, connecting the Mainland and international capital markets.

“We are delighted to further strengthen cooperation with CIPS Co. to support the continued development of RMB internationalisation. As a hub connecting and processing diverse transaction and settlement arrangements across international and the Chinese Mainland markets, CMU OmniClear offers a reliable financial infrastructure to consolidate Hong Kong’s status as an international financial centre and the world’s largest offshore RMB business hub.”
