Citi launches eFPI @ Citi

Citi announces the launch of their first-to-market solution eFPI @ Citi, which the firm says fast-tracks the registration process of Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) from the previous timeline of a few weeks to a few months now to five business days.
The firm states the launch of eFPI @ Citi comes as India continues to gain prominence among global investors, and Citi’s Services business in the country is well-positioned to address the need at scale.
Mridula Iyer, head of services, Asia South, Citi, says: “The attractiveness of any market hinges on how easily investors can enter it. India has long been recognised for its immense opportunities, and this initiative is a significant step in realising this potential.”
Thuin Kenta Pandey, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), adds: “We appreciate Citi’s initiative to provide faster registration timeline of 5 days for FPIs in India. It aligns with SEBI’s thrust on utilising technology to facilitate FPIs to access Indian Capital markets expeditiously.”
Citi explains the service is being rolled out in phases, with the first now live and covering regulated public funds from the US, Ireland, and Luxembourg, with the second phase covering additional jurisdictions such as the UK, Singapore, Canada, and Australia.
