Boerse Stuttgart Group has obtained the distributed ledger technology (DLT) Trading and Settlement System (TSS) licence under the EU DLT Pilot Regime.
The licence allows Seturion, the group’s digital settlement platform for tokenised assets, to operate as pan-European post-trade infrastructure.
Seturion is open to banks, brokers, and trading venues across Europe and is designed to overcome European post-trade fragmentation.
Boerse Stuttgart’s licence was granted by Germany’s Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) in a joint process with the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and the European Central Bank.
The group says this makes it the first European exchange group to obtain the DLT TSS licence under ESMA’s pilot programme.
According to Boerse Stuttgart, its new authorisation will allow it to “leverage the potential of blockchain technology for the next-generation post-trade infrastructure in Europe”.
Commenting on the licensing, Seturion CEO Lidia Kurt says: “By building Seturion as a digital settlement platform, we contribute to an efficient capital market — in full alignment with European regulation.”
To scale across Europe, Seturion is collaborating with flatexDEGIRO, Nasdaq, Societe Generale, and SG-FORGE, with more partners anticipated to follow.
